倍数表达法高考题 从一道高考题谈倍数的表达法

倍数表达法是高中英语教学的重点，也是历届高考的热点。下面是2011年陕西省高考试题单项选择的第十七题： The new studium being built for the next Asian Games will be ____ the present one.
A. as three times big as B. three times as big as
C. as big as three times D. as big three times as
根据倍数的表达法，答案为B。然而由于很多同学对倍数的表达掌握的不是很好，所以此题做得并不是很理想。下面我就针对倍数的表达做一下小结。当我们要表达A是B的几倍时，通常用下面五个句型来表示：
一、由“倍数+ as +形容词（或副词）的原形+ as ”结构组成，表示“A是B的……倍”。例如：
1.Asia is four times as large as Europe．亚洲的面积是欧洲的四倍. (亚洲的面积比欧洲的大三倍)
2.The plane flew ten times as high as the kite．那架飞机的飞行高度是那个风筝的十倍。（那架飞机的飞行高度比那个风筝的高出九倍。）
3.This tree is three times as tall as that one. 这棵树是那棵树的三倍高。（这棵树比那棵树高两倍。）
4. Ten years ago the population of our village was twice as large as that of theirs.十年前我们村庄的人口是他们村庄人口的两倍。(NMET 2008陕西-16)
二、由“倍数+as+形容词+名词复数（或不可数名词）+as”结构组成，表示“A是B的……倍”。此结构最常考的是“倍数+as+much+不可数名词+as”和“倍数+as+many+复数名词+as”这两种用法。例如：
1.The workers have produced twice as much cotton this year as they did two years ago. 工人们今年生产的棉花是两年前的两倍。（工人们今年生产的棉花比两年前多一倍.）
2.The library of our school has six times as many books as theirs. 我们学校图书馆的书是他们学校的六倍。(我们学校图书馆的书比他们学校的多五倍。)
3. Americans eat more than twice as many vegetables per person today as they did in 1910. 今天美国人每天吃的蔬菜是1910年吃的两倍。
三、由“倍数+as +形容词+a(an)+名词单数+as” 结构组成，表示“A是B的……倍”。例如：
1.The boss provided Jim with four times as big an apartment as yours.老板给Jim提供的公寓的面积是你们的四倍。（老板给Jim提供的公寓比你们的大三倍。）
2.This is two hundred times as expensive a car as a bike. 这辆车的价格是自行车的二百倍。（这辆车比自行车贵一百九十九倍。）
3. All the second-hand goods are sold at twice as low a price as before.所有的二手货都比以前的价格便宜两倍卖。
4. As we have known from the map of the world, this is twice as large an island as that. 从世界地图上我们可以知道，这个岛屿是哪个岛屿的两倍。
四、由“倍数+形容词（副词）比较级+than”结构组成，表示“A比B大或重等几倍”。例如：
1.The Yangtze River is almost twice longer than the Pearl River. 长江差不多比珠江长两倍。（长江的长度是珠江的三倍。）
2.This hall is five times bigger than our classroom．这个大厅比我们的教室大五倍。（这个大厅是我们教室的六倍。）
3.The car runs twice faster than that truck．这辆小车的速度比那辆卡车快两倍。（这辆小车的速度是那辆卡车的三倍。）
4. This hall is three times bigger than that one.这个大厅比那个大厅大三倍。
五、由“倍数+ the size（length,width,height,weight,age,amount，……）of”结构组成，表示“A是B的几倍大小（长短；数量等）”。此类结构中一定要注意不要漏掉名词前的the。例如：
1.The earth is forth-nine times the size of the moon. 地球是月亮的49倍大。（地球比月亮大48倍.）
2.At a rough estimate, Nigeria is three times the size of Great Britain. 粗略的估算，尼日利亚的面积是英国的三倍。
3.This street is six times the length of that street．这条街是那条街的六倍长。(这条街比那条街长五倍。)
4. This hill is four times the height of that small one．这座山的高度是那座小山的四倍。（这座山比那座小山高三倍.）
5. Paper produced every year is three times the weight of the word’s production of vehicles. 每天生产的纸的重量是世界机动车辆重量的三倍。
在学习中，我们要灵活运用以上表达，有时候，由于上下文的需要，出题者会从省略等方面考查倍数的表达，如下（例4）。此外，我们也要会举一反三，倍数的以上结构也可以用来表达A是B的一半（例1, 例3，例4）或A是B的几分之几或百分之几（例2，例5）。例如：
1.I want to know why Jake always gets good marks when he does only half as much as the others.我想知道杰克为什么只下了别人一半的功夫，成绩却总是很好呢。
2.The grain output is 8 percent higher this year than that of last year. 今年比去年的粮食产量增加了8%。
3. What a table! I’ve never seen such a thing before.It is not half as wide as it is long!怎样的一张桌子啊！我从来没有见过这样的东西。它的宽度不到它的一半长。
4.The house rent is expensive. I’ve got about half the space at home and I’m paying three times as much here.这个房租很贵。我住的地方是家里的一半大，却要付三倍的价钱。
5.He did it one-third the time it took me. 他做这件事只用了我做这件事时间的三分之一。
总之，一定要牢记以上五种倍数、分数的表达，并要学会灵活运用。同时，我们还要注意以下两点：1.在倍数的表达中，两倍用twice表达。两倍以上用基数词+times表达;2. 在倍数、分数的考查中，尤其是单项选择中，空出来的词比较多，增加了学生做题的难度。但记住，无论这以上五种结构中的哪一种，或者是它的哪一种变形，倍数、分数都在整个结构的最前面。
