Debbie: Hey Laurel, how are you this morning? Laurel: Hey Deb, I’m doing well. Yourself?
Debbie: Not bad. Do you have a minute to chat?
Laurel: Sure, grab a seat. What can I help you with?
Debbie: As I’m sure you know, we won the advertising contract with that modeling firm last quarter.
Laurel: Not at all. I’ve had to fight to prove that I had what it took to do the job, which is all that matters, Deb, not some stupid beauty contest. Remember, you’re going to be project manager on this. You did that on your own.
Debbie: You’re absolutely right. Wow, thanks again Laurel.
      Laurel: My pleasure.
a little bird told sb.: sb. doesn’t want to say who told him/her the information
—How did you hear about the new round of layoffs?
      —A little bird told me.
It’s not all roses: used to express that, while sth. may have good parts, it will also have bad parts(用以表述当某事物有好的方面时,也会有不好的方面)。例如:
Being the boss looks like a good job, but I can tell you that it’s not all roses.
out of left field: (also “out of the blue”) apparently without reason or cause (离谱的)。例如:
Your comment really came out of left field. What did you mean by it?
It’s not always a blessing: though “it” may be a good thing, it can also cause problems at times(尽管“这件事”也许是好事,但它有时也可能带来麻烦)。例如:
Being ten feet tall isn’t always a blessing. I often hit my head on doors and trees.
③ I just don’t want to have them wondering who let the bridge troll out.
who let the bridge troll out: used to comment on the presence of a very unattractive person(用以评论一个很无吸引力的人的出场)。例如:
At first I was wondering who let the bridge troll out, but then I realized
