究竟是形容词还是副词? 副词修饰形容词

英语中带有“ly”后缀的词往往都是副词，但是也有一些是形容词，有的既是形容词又是副词；有的词没有“ly”后缀，却既是形容词也是副词；有的词不论有没有“ly”后缀都是副词。我们在学习英语过程中若不能认真对待这些词，就会很容易引起混淆，分不清究竟哪个是形容词，哪个是副词。为了能够正确地辨别这些形容词和副词，本文现将它们小结如下：
一、有“ly”后缀，不是副词却是形容词
这样的词有：costly，curly，elderly，friendly，homely，lively，lonely，lovely，silly，timely，ugly等。
a dog with a curly tail卷尾巴的狗；an elderly couple一对老年夫妇
a warm and friendly person热情友好的人；a homely child相貌普通的孩子
a silly question愚蠢的问题；an ugly face难看的面孔
an intelligent and lively young woman
聪慧而充满活力的年轻女士
Buying new furniture may be too costly.
购买新家具可能会花钱太多。
She lives alone and often feels lonely.
她孑然一身，常感到寂寞。
He has a lovely voice.
他说话的声音很好听。
A nasty incident was prevented by the timely arrival of the police.
警察的及时到来阻止了一次严重的事故。
二、有“ly”后缀，既是副词也是形容词
这样的词有：daily，weekly，monthly，yearly，early，deadly，jolly，leisurely等。
This is a daily newspaper with news updated daily.
这是一份新闻天天更新的日报。
Early booking is essential as the best rooms go to those who book earliest.
务必早点预订，因为最早预订者可得最好的房间。
He was in a deadly serious condition since he was attacked by a deadly weapon.
由于受到致命武器的袭击，他生命垂危。
It’s a jolly good idea to spend a jolly time with our foreign language teacher.
和我们的外语老师共享快乐的时光，这是个绝妙的主意。
They walked leisurely along the road at a leisurely pace.
他们步态悠闲地在路边走着。
三、没有“ly”后缀，既是形容词也是副词
这样的词有：clean，dead，direct，easy，fast，hard，pretty，straight等。
I clean forgot about the fact that it is your responsibility to keep the room clean and tidy.
我完全忘了保持房间整洁是你的职责。
Here is a dead dog indeed，and you are dead right.
这的确有一只死狗，你是完全正确的。
The direct plane goes direct from London to Houston without stopping.
这架直航飞机从伦敦起飞，直达休斯顿。
It’s really easy to remember the sentence “Easy come，easy go.”.
“来得容易去得快”这句话很好记。
Don’t drive so fast since we are out of the fast lane.
别把车开得这么快，因为我们已经驶出快车道了。
It’s hard to believe that he could work very hard to improve his English.
很难相信他会刻苦学习来提高英语。
I am pretty sure that you look so pretty in that dress.
我坚信你穿那件连衣裙定会非常漂亮。
The girl with long straight hair went straight back home after school.
那位头发又长又直的女孩放学后直接回家了。
四、不论有没有“ly”后缀，都是副词
1.词义相同。这样的词有loud/loudly，quick/quickly，slow/slowly，tight/tightly等。
Don’t talk so loud/loudly，or you’ll wake all the people up in the house.
不要大声讲话，不然你会把整个屋子里的人都吵醒的。
Come as quick/quickly as you can!
你尽快过来吧！
Can you speak slower/more slowly?
你说慢点行吗？
My suitcase was packed tight/tightly.
我的箱子塞得满满的。
2.词义不同。这样的词有free/freely，hard/hardly，late/lately等。
You can eat free in my restaurant whenever you like.
在我的餐馆里，你可以随时免费就餐。
You can speak freely――I won’t tell anyone what you say.
你想说什么就说什么，我不会把你说的话告诉别人的。
It was raining hard outside.
外面雨下得很大。
I hardly ever go to concert.
我很少去听音乐会。
We arrived two hours late.
我们迟到了两小时。
I haven’t heard from him lately.
我最近没接到他的来信。
